It has lovely places where you can walk such as the Malecón or the Old Town. Dozens of beaches with different views and styles. It’s indubitably one of the best places you could choose to live your life if you’ re looking for a place to relax.
Now, this is where you ask yourself, “yes, interesting, but what about the price?”.
Well, Mexico in general offers a much lower cost of living and even though Puerto Vallarta is a tourist spot, it does as well. Considering that one American dollar is the equivalent of 20 pesos or more, this means that your pension is 4 times higher in Mexico than in the USA. If we focus a little bit more on numbers, we can show you an example of a monthly budget and typical prices for a couple living in Puerto Vallarta:

A typical retired couple should budget under $3,000 for a month’s expenses, included a two bedroom apartment (around $900) , electricity, gas and water ( $200 ), cellphone and internet ( $100 ), insurance and property tax ( $150 ), dining out ($ 300), and even groceries and household items ($300).  So, in reality this couple’s pension has multiplied by 4 when arriving in Mexico since the prices are much lower (even if they live in a touristic place). The Mexican currency and the jumpsuit are cheaper, which gives us the opportunity to take better advantage of the pension.

And let’s not forget about some other important things. You have an international airport with plenty of direct flights from multiple cities in Canada and the U.S. as well. This makes it a lot easier if you need to make some trips back to your hometown and visit your family, because of your job or even to welcome visitors and family members to your new home.

Also, if you’re worried about your health and health insurances, you must know that in Puerto Vallarta there are a couple excellent hospitals where the medical care is top notch. There are also several world-class private hospitals and clinics, including specialist care. There is low cost dental care as well, even major dental work is a fraction of the cost in the U.S. and Canada.

Furthermore, since Puerto Vallarta is so close to the ocean, it’s literally never cold and the salty breathable air keeps people in good health most of the time. Many retirees come because it’s never cold in Puerto Vallarta and it helps them maintain a good health. It can get warm and humid, also hot as expected, especially in summertime, with the height in August and September. But during the winter and early spring, the weather is comfortable with low humidity (lower 80s F). That’s when many “snowbirds,” especially from Canada and the northern United States, fly back to Puerto Vallarta.
